The RTP 1 programme debated the topic of fighting online lies and misinformation.
In less than a month Portugal will have a new Bill of Human Rights for the Digital Age, which has already been approved in parliament and promulgated by the President of the Republic.
But there is a chorus of protesting voices claiming that the “Pandora’s box” is open with a law that paves the way for a new kind of censorship that separates truth from lies.
At a time when nobody escapes the digital world anymore.
And in which being connected is a “human right”… How will it be possible to protect citizens from demagogy and online manipulation?
Will it be possible to combat lies and disinformation without the risk of censorship?
